Celebrating the New Year....and the Next Century!

In the midst of the Church celebrating the Christmas Season, the world celebrates new beginnings as we mark the early days of 2011.
As we look back on the year that has passed, we are indeed blessed by all those whose sacrifice help us spread the Gospel to our local community and beyond.  We are indeed indebted to all those who generously support our Mission and continue to support our many charitable works in and through Jesus Christ.  For over 100 years, Saint Thomas the Apostle has relied on God’s goodness as we proclaim Jesus’ message of love and peace to all we meet.
Please join me as I look to the year ahead with hope, for with God all things are possible.  Much work lies ahead in 2011.  With God’s help and grace, anything that is truly part of God’s plan will not only occur, but flourish!
By now, all have seen the scaffolding which covers Monsignor Mulz Hall – just an outward sign of the enormous work that needs to be done to allow this building to continue to serve us into the future.  May the work we see on Mulz Hall and the Church also remind us of our part in helping to Celebrate the Next Century by Remembering the Past, Rejoicing in the Present and Strengthening for the Future.
Please consider how we may all share equally in sacrificing to provide for these many projects ~ not equal amounts of money, but equal sacrifice will help us, not only meet but exceed our goals.
Thank you in advance, for your generous consideration of this request to fund these important projects.

With wishes for a happy, healthy and holy New Year,

Celebrating the New Year....and the Next Century!

Giving Thanks to Christ our King

Today the Church celebrates the Feast of Christ the King.  As we come to the end of the Church year, we are given this feast to remind us that Jesus, our King comes to us with the power connected to forgiveness and living faithful lives.  In the same way, we rely on Jesus’ promise to remain with us until the end of time.    May we be inspired to follow Him more closely to the place prepared specifically for all people of faith, coming to trust His promise more with each passing day.
Today we will also install 15 new Altar Servers who have just completed their classes to be prepared to serve our faith community at Mass.  The new servers will join our existing faithful servers, (some of whom have continued to serve as High School Students) in agreeing to serve for the next year.  What a magnificent sign of the truth that we can ALL do something beautiful for God. I am grateful to Fr. Francis, Mr. Robert Malone and Mr. Stephen Bradley and the Parish Office Staff for their hard work and dedication in training our servers.
As a nation we celebrate Thanksgiving this week.  In the midst of so many struggles we are indeed most blessed as a Nation, City, Parish and People.  Each week at Mass we have the opportunity to give Thanks – not just on Thanksgiving.   Our weekly prayer connected to the sacrifice of Jesus reminds us of the need to live grateful lives – to be thankful for the simple things which in the end are most valuable.
Permit me the opportunity to express my gratitude for the incredible generosity extended to Saint Thomas the Apostle so that we may extend that generosity to people in need.  By your care and sacrifice, countless people are helped throughout the year.  We are grateful for all those who brought food and donations to Church, Saint Thomas School and Sunday Religion Class.  The volunteers who so generously assisted Mrs. Carmella Dearing of Parish Outreach commented on the numerous donations that will be used to help our neighbors and friends to give thanks.

With wishes for a Blessed Thanksgiving to you and those you love.
