The following is a brief description of some of the
many ministries available here at St. Thomas
Apostle Parish:

If you are interested in joining any of these programs, please contact the Rectory at (718) 847-1353

Adult Altar Server
– The Altar server assists the Priest at weekday
Masses and Funerals.  This ministry is open to anyone willing to make
a commitment to serve on a regular basis.

Adult Choir – This ministry is composed of parishioners that are
dedicated to serving the Lord through their musical abilities.  They
sing at the 11:00 Mass and all special Parish liturgies.

Altar Linen Society – Help in the washing & preparation of the Altar
Linens.

Altar Servers - Altar servers are a group of young boys and girls, as well as teens,
that minister at the altar for Sunday Masses. After a period of training, provided by
the Parish, altar servers assist the priest and other liturgical ministers in the
celebration of Mass and other liturgical ceremonies.

Christian Awareness - is a placement service that offers help to the elderly in
the community. We send them a home health aid for personal care or an assistant
in the care of their home for a reasonable fee.  On a parish level it provides
homebound parishioners with companionship from volunteers who donate their spare time.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion – The Extraordinary
Ministers of Holy Communion proclaim the presence of Christ by
helping with the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass.  They also
bring Holy Communion to the homebound of the parish.  You must
be interviewed by a Priest and attend a training workshop offered by
the Diocese.

Family Mass Music Group – This ministry is composed of
parishioners that are dedicated to serving the Lord through their
musical abilities.  They sing at the 9:30 Family Mass on Sunday.

Lectors – The Lector’s primary duty is to proclaim the Word of God
to those gathered during the celebration of Mass or other liturgical
functions.  Lectors should have a special love for God’s word, be
willing to train and prepare for this ministry, and have the ability to
project their voices well.

Ushers – Ministers of Hospitality – Ushers greet members of the
assembly and provide a welcoming atmosphere to Sunday liturgies.
They assist people in finding seats, take up the Sunday offering and
invite parishioners to participate in the Offertory procession.  A
sincere helpful attitude and a warm friendly smile are required.
Training is provides.
