This past week teachers, students and administrators returned to school.  Members of our parish community returned to the various Colleges, Universities and schools where they study and work.  Students, Teachers and Administrators at Saint Thomas the Apostle School, like many private and public schools began the 2010-2011 School year.   Saint Thomas the Apostle School is ready to continue to form our young people with God’s help, and through the generous support of many dedicated people.  Please join me in praying for a successful school year.
The formation of our young people through Catholic Education and the Faith Formation Program, (formerly CCD/Religious Education) is taken most seriously by those involved in this important work of the Church.
Saint Thomas School not only provides a school one can believe in, but is constantly working to improve and provide greater opportunities for our Students in all the academic and spiritual disciplines.  I am grateful to the dedicated Teachers, Administrators, and Staff who continue to serve our parish by not only sharing their knowledge, but the faith which guides all knowledge in and through Jesus Christ.

It is no mistake that the Office of Faith Formation shares space in Saint Thomas School.  These buildings have long-served our parish and its people by providing the space needed to allow students to experience and learn about our faith.  Registration for classes continues.  Please help spread the word, that every Catholic child from 1st to 8th grade should be enrolled in class.  The richness of our faith is learned over many years – not just in one or two years.   Learning our faith in a year or two, is as we all know, just impossible.   Classes will begin shortly.

As I noted last week, everything we do takes sacrifice and some level of hard work.  With regard to those who participate in the education aspect of our ministry at Saint Thomas two more words come to mind; commitment and faith.   Our goal, as always is to encourage commitment to our faith in all things – I am grateful for the commitment and faith of all those involved in these programs which encourages me in my vocation as priest and pastor.

Seeking greater commitment, and so that there is no confusion, at orientation for Saint Thomas School and Faith Formation, the Mass attendance requirement will be explained.    Our greatest desire is that by fostering what is expected by the Church we can all re-commit our selves to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ.
